dial m for murder

i met Robert Rosenkrantz on the corner of Cherokee & Hollywood Blvd. i'd gone outside to get some air, after just having viewed most of "Dial M for Madonna", the latest installation at World Of Wonder's Storefront Gallery.

ten minutes before Robert came over to introduce himself, i had seen him inside the reception (out of the corner of my eye) take a picture of me with his camera phone. now, here he was, in the cold and rainy night, telling me he admired my courage, especially during the time he was incarcerated. when i asked him what he had been locked up for he said ..."murder".

read about his amazing story here: Rosenkrantz finally freed

pedal medal

i've been tooling around Hollywood on my bike for the past 3 days, which means my car has just been sitting in the garage all this time. i can hear all you gas guzzlers out there saying "so what, ru. you want a friggin' medal?". well, my answer to that is "yes, that's exactly what i want... a medal that says i am so much smarter and prettier than everybody else".

'tis the season

excerpt from Stonewall Riots, Drag Queens, and Judy Garland

"Friday, June 27th, 1969, a great many men from the Village flocked to Judy Garland's funeral at a upper Eastside funeral parlor at Madison Ave and 81st. What impressed them -- and in the early hours of the next day, mobilized them to resist the police raid on the Stonewall Inn -- wasn't Garland's divahood (after all, it had been her downfall), but rather the number of other gay men they saw at the event. These were Garland's fans. There were crowds of homosexuals recognizing each other on the street in front of the funeral parlor.

Garland's funeral turned out to be a sort of proto-gay pride event. And it demonstrated there was power in numbers -- that was something "in the air" in those days as one anti-war mobilization after another demonstrated how many people were "anti-establishment."

Kass party

Carmen Kass is the only real supermodel working today. she's versatile, smart and the best catwalker in the business. she's been my personal favorite for 7 years now... very reminiscent of a young Margot Kidder. watch her here and you'll understand why.

"i wish i was a camera"

i got up into drags friday evening to shoot some viral video for LOGO's website. Randy, Chris & Tom from WOW came over to my place to film and we had a grand ol' time. for inspiration, we ended up watching a Diana Ross compilation DVD i just happened to have on hand.

Charo stopped by World Of Wonder yesterday for a meeting. she was completely red-hot! i'd met her only once before, but she made me feel like we were old friends. in the clip below, try to take your eyes off Charo for a second to spy the male dancers. heaven!

ruplica

this picture of Tiffany's girls was taken on Buck's iphone a couple of weeks ago at Madame Tussauds in Times Square. i've only seen my wax replica once, and that was at the museum's grand opening in 2000.

i haven't been back because it weirded me out having people watch me as i watched myself. plus, i try to avoid situations where i can hear people talking about me when they don't realize i'm standing right next to them. i can't tell you how many times in my career that has happened.

this whole story line begs the question - well, who am i? the image in photos? the man in the mirror? the voice in me head? maybe none of the above. sorry, there i go again.

still, i feel it's a great honor to have been replicated like this.

stone gas, honey!

i watched "Soul Train" religiously when i was a kid. my favorite dancers on the show were Damita Jo Freeman, Sharon Hill, Jeffrey Daniel, Tyrone Procter & Jody Watley. here are Tyrone and Jody reunited in her video for "Still A Thrill".

more passionate than Luke & Laura, Blake & Krystal and Itchy & Scratchy combined, the love affair between Beecher & Keller on Oz stood far and above any other TV romance in history. watch the clip and follow the links to re-live the steamiest couple the boob tube has ever produced.

L.A. Woman

because of all the traveling, my body clock has me going to bed at 8pm and waking up at 2am. by 10am, when i reported to my new work space at World Of Wonder, i'd already had a full day.

we're in pre-production for a new TV show (stay tuned for more details), so my day there started with a brainstorming meeting, in which Pamela Anderson popped in to say "hi". she is completely gorgeous and charming, even without a stitch of make-up. she's also doing a show at WOW.

then, i made myself comfortable with the assigned work space and company computer. it's very exciting because i've had no experience working in an office with a zillion employees. i had to ask everybody where, what and how, and they were all very kind and accommodating. i felt like the new kid at school. i wore Prada.

Tom Trujillo picked me up and took me to lunch at King's Road Cafe. we listened to Riskay's song "Smell Yo Dick" over and over.

at 4pm i had a voiceover session in Studio City for the animated series "Rick & Steve". Wilson Cruz was just finishing up when i got there. my scene was with that beautiful kid from "Noah's Arc" Darryl Stephens.

i would love to have gone country line dancing, but i was way too sleepy.

he can't love you

the Eckhart Tollé books uncover the truth behind falling in love with the one who can't possibly love you back, and it's also the subject of Jonny McGovern's new, twisted music video. look for the cameo by hot ginge, porn star Blu Kennedy.

wall to wall

visiting Walmart is like conducting a sociological study. it's absolutely fascinating to discover what's on the shelves, given the political and economical criteria the corporation requires from vendors. the bigger story is who's not on the shelves at Walmart. we were at the one in York, Pa. at 2:AM on friday morning, so we got to explore the store with virtually no other customers around.

this is what i bought:

salt-n-pepa - greatest hits $9.96
bob seger - greatest hits $8.82
carrie underwood - some hearts $8.82
robocop - dvd $9.44
5 "a new earth" by eckhart tolle @ $9.64 each
kashi "cinnamon crunch something" cereal - $2.00
4 rice dream/rice milk @ $1.76 each
4 vanilla yogurts @ $0.44 each
bolthouse mocha protein drink - $3.58
duracell triple A batteries/10 pack - $6.97
duracell A double a batteries/10 pack - $6.97
hannah montana tee shirt - $5.00
half liter bottled water/20 pack - $3.88
tax - $5.96

total - $128.40

jeffrey

Jeff Key was in town this week and we went to see the new Paul Rudnick play "the new century" at Lincoln Center. the play is fantastic. i've always been a big fan of Rudnick's work (In & Out, Jeffrey, The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told).

this show has a very poignant character called "Mr. Charles" that spoke especially to me, and based on the faces of the gentleman sitting in the audience stage left, the character spoke to them too. clever, funny, witty and Linda Lavin ta-boot!

Martha Wash slept here

saturday night was only the second time Martha Wash and i performed our version of "it's raining men", which went top ten in England. the other time was a couple of years ago in Pensacola, Florida.

when performing next to Martha, it's very difficult to not get completely intimidated by her omnificent voice. on stage, i found myself becoming so transfixed by her magic that i had to remind myself i was performing too. she is absolutely one of the greatest singers to ever stand in front of a microphone and open her mouth.

our hotel rooms were next door to one another, and although we never acknowledged it, i knew she was there because i heard hardcore black gospel coming through the walls at 2 o'clock in the morning. i mean, who else in Paris would be playing Shirley Caesar at that hour?

from Paris to York, Pa.

last saturday, we bought an all day pass which allowed us to hop on any of the double decker tourist buses that cruise Paris. it was great because what little geographical knowledge i had of the city was pieced together by the bus tour. Paris demystified.

the only drawback was the taped audio portion of the tour was strewn with advertisements for everything from the onboard Coke machine to Versailles day trips. ultimately, i just head-phoned my Grace Jones playlist and did without the aural guide. Grace is a much better guide to Paris anyway.

here in New York, we have taxi cabs equipped with TV's that show non-stop advertisements. the TV's cannot be turned off because there is no Off button. it'd be tolerable if the commercials were any Goode... as in Jean-Paul Goode.

on sunday, before our car to Orly airport arrived, we had a couple of hours to kill. so we rented bikes and rode up the canals. so much fun. wish we had more time. well, C'est La Vie.

tomorrow morning, we're renting a car and driving to York, Pa. for my show there on friday night. of course, we're gonna stop at the Gucci outlet in Secaucus, New Jersey on the way.
