giving thanks

it's late sunday night, and i've just now recovered from a marathon shoot we did on friday. i awoke at 4am friday morning and got to the studio at 6am, was camera ready by noon, and rapped at 2:30am. by the time i packed up and drove home it was 4am saturday morning.

we shot a Special Edition of Rupaul's Drag Race, plus a series of commercials promoting the show, and a music video. doing the work wasn't as difficult as recovering from doing the work. the bounce back factor is a real bitch. i swear, could barely put a sentence together until a couple of hours ago... wait a minute, does that make sense?

trust me, i ain't complaining. i'm grateful that people still wanna hire me, and that i can still do the work.

Lahoma Van Zant is coming to LA tomorrow and will be staying with me till friday.

New Brenda Dickson!

the lower 48

weird seeing the number 48 written down next to my name. interesting birthday. after an early morning bike ride, i realized i had locked myself out of the house, then later, my car wouldn't start.

i spent the rest of the day in the studio recording a song about "tranny chasers". i wanted to do a whole spa week leading up to my B'day, but i kept working instead because i'm determined to finish this album in time for the "RuPaul's Drag Race" TV debut.

truth is... i had a wonderful birthday!

"it's my birthday, it's my birthday.

"Please tell Ru I love him and many thanks for his loyal support xxx"

Faye as Joan as Mae

WTF? you would think she'd have
turned her nose at portraying famous iconic actresses.
don't get me wrong, i'm glad hasn't.

Whitney is back!

this image says, not only am i sexy, vibrant and strong, but i'm a friggin' superhero! very smart marketing for what's to come. i appreciate her more today than i ever did in the past. no one has since come close to the quality of her catalog or the richness of her voice.

album of the year

everytime i visit the The Virgin Megastore at Hollywood & Highland i think it'll be my last time. for one, the parking garage is located deep down near the earth's core, so you have to take several escalators to resurface. on top of that, the store feels crammed, totally un-feng shui. it makes me want to flee as soon as i walk through the doors. add to that, the music they blast is too friggin' loud.

a reliable source told me the chain will no longer be with us after February, which is effed up because i love record stores... just not that particular one.

i went there to buy the LaBelle reunion cd and Jennifer Hudson, but also picked up the new Michelle Williams, Lady Gaga, Evelyn "Champagne" King, and yet another Tina Turner Greatest Hits cd that had 2 new songs on it.

here are the albums i rocked the most in 2008:

1. Satisfied...Taylor Dayne (album of the year))
2. Discipline...Janet Jackson
3. E=MC2...Mariah Carey
4. X...Kylie Minogue
5. It's A Man's World...Cher
6. Foreign Affair...Tina Turner
7. Boogie2Night...Booty Luv
8. Everytime...Pam Tillis
9. Baby, It's Me...Diana Ross
10. Konichiwa Bitches...Robyn

9. moment of truth...Whitney Houston
10. want this...Danity Kane

"happy birthday to you"

my birthday is on monday, November 17th. i am 9 months older than Mr. President-Elect! how friggin' funny is that! it's kinda like the first time i saw a cop who was younger than me, but different. it's more like being slapped in the face with my own mortality. fuck it, bring it.

corn?

wednesday night, after an industry event at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Randy tried to drive me home via Santa Monica Blvd, but couldn't because the "No on 8, No on Hate" protesters were marching into Beverly Hills, bound for the Mormon Temple.

on this particular stretch of the boulevard, the street lights are so scarce, you could barely make out their faces, but you could tell they were very young, amp'd up and ready for battle. it was beautiful! they looked like The Gay Children of the Corn.

one good thing to come out of all this is how it has galvanized the younger generation of Gays in a way i haven't seen in a very long time. that's why i feel this Proposition will be overturned... aside from it being fucked up and wrong.

hope springs eternal

my first time was to get Carter re-elected. he didn't win, but i was beyond thrilled nonetheless to be a part of the process. beyond thrilled doesn't even come close to describing the feeling i had when i walked into my polling location this morning. turns out, hope IS tangible. you CAN hold it in your hands. i-am-very-emotional-right-now.

colors

i was reading P o p M u s e this morning and followed his link to a Kermit The Frog "Rainbow Connection" clip. without fail, Kermit's rendition made me ball my eyes out. i don't know if it's the lyrics, the chords (of the song) or just the fact that the real Kermit (Jim Henson) is singing that makes me cry so hard.

i remember being devastated the day Jim Henson died. so much so, that i'd bust into tears for a full week following at just the thought of Kermit. Sammy Davis Jr. passed on the same day as Henson, and i fucking loved Sammy, but for some reason the Jim Henson death effected me more.
