nights in harlem

i worked on the movie soundtrack from noon until 7pm at a studio in TriBeCa, and then i hopped on the A train to Harlem with my bike for an ADR (looping) session that lasted from 8pm till 2am. i decided to bike home to the West Village from 125th street along the Hudson River. it was scary but fun. lots of unlit areas along the bike path and i spotted only 5 rats. i listened to Luther the whole way. it took me 9 songs to get home.

it's a new year!

i had sunday off so i biked around Park Slope in Brooklyn. it was friggin' mint! i loved it. i've lived in New York City for well over 300 years, and yesterday was my first time in "the BK's" Prospect Park. this year, i am determined to open some new doors in my life.

ru-pee don'ts

i am having sooo much fun doing the soundtrack to The Movie. i'm sure most of my joy has to do with not following any of "the rules". i'm doing miami bass, freestyle, crunk and 80's Stock, Aitken, Waterman! Dickey Doo in Vancouver gave me a bunch of rare S.A.W. tracks that i can't wait to pour over.

Robert Warren and i were in a band called "Wee Wee Pole" many years ago.

i've been struck... it finally hit me!

i'll never forget the night Cher won best actress for Moonstruck. everyone in our house was jumping up and down and screaming with pride and joy. our girl, who had been written off as "washed up" just 7 years prior, had really shown them all. i literally had tears streaming down my face.

the secret i never told anybody was that i hated the movie. i just didn't get it... that is until i watched it tonight for the first time in almost 19 years. now, i friggin' LOVE this movie. it's absolutely brilliant! what was i thinking back then? i must have been emotionally shut down and in a walking coma, because i now see that this movie is exquisite and every performance is perfect.

in the mix

Vancouver has always been one of my 4 favorite cities in the world. the geography and the beautiful citizens make it irresistible. as i was walking down Granville this afternoon, i realized the mixture of cultures is what makes everyone look so gorgeous.

my other fave cities are Sydney, Rio and San Francisco.

another excerpt from

Conversations With God: Book 3 by Neale Donald Walsch

In an earlier part of your history, you lived on this planet in a matriarchal society. Then there was a shift, and the patriarchy emerged. When you made that shift, you moved away from expressing your emotions. You labeled it "weak" to do so. It was during this period that males also invented the devil, and a masculine god.

Males invented the devil?

Yes. Satan was essentially a male invention. Ultimately, all of society went along with it, but the turning away from emotions, and the invention of an "Evil One," was part of a male rebellion against the matriarchy, a period in which women ruled over everything from their emotions. They held all governmental post, all religious positions of power, all places of influence in commerce, science, academia, healing.

the following passage is...

...from the book i'm currently reading. it really struck a chord with me. please keep in mind that i am NOT religious.

"The model of behavior for centuries on this planet has been: do not "indulge" your emotions. If you're feeling grief, get over it; if you're feeling angry, stuff it; if you're feeling envious, be ashamed of it; if you're feeling fear, rise above it; if you're feeling love, control it, limit it, wait for it, run from it - do whatever you have to do to stop from expressing it, full out, right here, right now.

It is time to set yourself free. In truth, you have imprisoned your Holy Self. And it is time to set yourself free."

in myspace, no one can hear you scream

I've uploaded four previously unreleased demos to the myspace page. Three of the songs were produced by Steve "Silk" Hurley for my second Tommy Boy Records release. Unfortunately, I was unceremoniously dropped from the label before the album was finished. The fourth song was part of my original demo reel pre-Tommy Boy. It's pretty rotten, but I love it for it's absurdity and it's ridiculous rhymes (like, "she's on a mission, so don't be pissin'... her off!")

Myspace doesn't allow enough space (tee hee) for the full titles of these songs, so here they are in their entirety :

StarrBooty '91 (Rare Demo)
Free to Be (Steve "Silk" Hurley '94)
Love Your Funky Self (Steve "Silk" Hurley '94)
Don't Walk Away (Steve "Silk" Hurley '94)

(the reason there are caps in this text is matt moss typed it)

design within reach

i'm reading Conversations With God: Book Three. this book makes me mad, and then happy, and then mad again. the book is telling me that i've been the architect of my experience on this planet since day one. if that's true, i can't understand why i haven't created more hot sex with tall hairy men with big lips.

"do you remember?"

the 25th of september has always been the beginning of the year for me. i can already feel the changes starting to happen. i've had the overwhelming desire to smoke a cigarette after 30 months smober, but i haven't succumbed, especially since i had my teeth cleaned today.

my cigarette jones has more to do with my workload surrounding The Movie. we're working day and night to get a cut ready for Sundance before the deadline.
