the devil in miss jackson

shot a music video for "Devil Made Me Do It" yesterday. Mathu & Andrew directed. i think it's the first music video where i appear both in & out of drags. my out of drags look was inspired by Robert Mitchum in the film "The Night Of The Hunter". my in drags imagery was totally Janet Jackson as The Devil.

can't do two things at once

i do alot of press interviews over the phone, and i'm always a little leery when i hear the interviewer typing on a keypad as i'm delivering the answer to their question. inevitably, the published article is filled with inaccuracies. stop already with the School of Journalism routine... get a friggin' tape recorder!

at the end of the day, as long as there's picture and my name is spelled correctly, i'm fine with it.

damn, Starbucks!

they sell their Key Lime Crumb Cake only at airports, and you need a boarding pass to get to it. that's why i had to buy 4 pieces yesterday. i reasoned that i would share my loot with Lucian, but 2 hours later i had eaten them all. damn, them!

Jealous Of My Boogie

Hey dj, love the way
I lose my inhibitions when you spin
And i don't care if people stare
I'd rather boogie than try to fit in

Turn it up let'em scrutinize (I know you're watching)
Way up cause the night is mine (i know you're watching)
Turn it up lemme scandalize (I know you're watching)
Yeah, up under flashing lights

No, don't be jealous of my boogie, don't be jealous of my boogie
You can say that you are not, but I always see you looking

Can't stop now, won't slow down
I gotta emulate the BPM
I hit the scene and they turn green
It can't be easy, i don't envy them

Don't be, don't be so jealous of my boogie

Why is drag relevant today?

The ego's purpose is to take everything seriously, including yourself.
Drag's purpose is to take nothing seriously, including yourself.

Lyrics: Tranny Chaser

I'm doing The View today. I hope Barbara will be there. Can't wait to tell Whoopie that we name checked her in the song "Tranny Chaser."

Tranny Chaser [R. Charles / L. Piane]

Is some tranny chasers up in here? Welcome to my stratisphere (fierce fierce)
Make a move, what you wanna do? I ain't got no time for no looky loo, boo

Is some tranny chasers up in here? Lemme make one thing clear (fierce fierce)
Make a move, what you wanna do? I ain't got no time for no looky loo, boo

Hey (work) give a dog a bone. Looky-loo, looky look at you who
Hey (work) give a dog a bone. Look at you, lookin' at Ru Ru

I see the way you want it, and you want it bad
You can't regret the candy that you never had
So take a bite baby, better do it fast
Hurry up cause you won't get another chance

Just because you want me... that don't make you gay
Every time you watch me... that don't make you gay
Do you wanna be me... that don't make you gay
Or do you wanna f@#& me... that don't make you gay

So the hunter got captured by the game
It ain't the first time a player got played
Won't be the last time you hear a t-girl say
You want it wet then you betta make it rain

Alright Patti LaBelle, here's something else for you.
What do you want?
What's the tee, girl? Tell me what's the tee?

Looky-loo, looky look at you who
Looky-loo, looky look at woo who
Looky-loo, what you gonna do
Looky-loo, Whoopie gotta boo boo
Oh no she didn't

May the fierce be with you

System Override

In theatre, there's a term called "breaking the 4th wall". It's when an actor drops character and addresses the audience. The other actors on stage hate it because it immediately breaks the illusion that what's happening on stage is really real.

The animosity that drag queens experience by society at large is due to the same scenario. People get angry when the role they're playing is revealed to be nothing more than an illusion. When the hoax is revealed, their ego instructs them to retaliate and discredit the rogue player who broke the 4th wall.

If you are confused by this analogy, then you are completely normal. Your confusion is the result of attempting to override the system.

Your ego is the largest part of a system that convinces you the illusion is real. It was designed to not disengage. It was constructed to not self analyze, the same way you cannot point at the finger you are pointing with. It will fight tooth and nail to not be destroyed.

Drag makes fun of the ego. The ego does not like that.

There is a "safe word" that will disengage your ego momentarily. It's actually three little words that will override the system without fail. After you say these three words, you will experience the vastness of the universe, therefore answering the question...

who am I?

Lyrics: Champion

Last weekend, I performed 2 nights in Tampa at a cabaret called "L'Olivier." I had a blast performing songs from my new album for the very first time. I got chills while singing "Champion", especially with Entertainment Weekly referring to this period as my comeback.

En route, I had a one hour layover in Atlanta and had dinner with a man i met in line at Pascals Soul Food. Joelle and I usually eat there everytime we pass through Hartsfield-Jackson, but this time I was traveling to Florida from LAX and she from JFK. Below is a picture of me with my dinner companion, Darrell.

Champion [R. Charles / L. Piane]

One dream, the will to fight
And all they could do was laugh
This time you got it right
And no one can take it back

They try to keep you down, but there's no denying

You're a champion, greatest of them all
You're a champion, never gonna fall
You're a champion still standing tall
You're a champion and you'll always be a hero oh oh oh...

Nobody wins by playin' small
Remember who you really are
Fearless and beautiful
The child of a shining star

And when your story's told and the truth unfolds
They will sing your praises loud
Cause your story's gold, if the truth be told
With all the children singing...
