Cher Vegas '09

It turned out to be a good thing that I forgot the Cher tickets at home in LA, because when I got to the box office at Caesar's Palace to have them reissue another pair, the House Manager told me that this was my "lucky day." Indeed it was because not only did he reissue Tom and I new tickets, but he reassigned our seats to be front row and center. I was literally sitting 6 feet in front of Cher during the entire concert, which needless to say was beyond spectacular.

We cheered, danced and gave her so much love and energy that she clearly appreciated the singular consciousness. It seemed as though a third of the sold-out crowd were true blue Cher fans, but the other two thirds were there to see any show regardless of who was performing. They didn't seem to give much by way of fanatic adoration... not the easiest group to perform for. My guess is that the house saves the front row for folks who are really gonna let "The Lady" have it.

She looked fucking phenomenal and sounded better than ever. In all my years of going to concerts (my first was James Brown at the San Diego Sports Arena in 1969), last night's Cher concert was by far the best. It felt as though she was performing just for me.
