All The Real Girls

After proclaiming it my favorite film of 2003, I hadn't seen "All The Real Girls" again until two nights ago. It was just as hauntingly beautiful and deeply moving as I remembered. Patricia Clarkson has a real knack for choosing roles in independent films that really allow her genius to shine. Pick it up on Amazon if you get the chance.

First Season's Greetings: Shannel & Family

Don't get me wrong, the first season of Drag Race was amazing, but the second season packs more "conflama" and unapologetic raw ambition from the contestants. The first season's girls knew they had to be diplomats representing an art form that had been M.I.A. from mainstream pop culture for many years, so overall they were very cordial. The season two girls are here with premeditated strategies formed with the advantage of having seen the first season. They've come to win. There will be blood.

Not without my daughter

Go on, smellabrate!

En route to Las Vegas, Tom and I detoured by way of the Cabazon Outlet Mall near Palm Springs to do a little retail debauchery. While at Yves Saint Laurent, Tom suggested I give the fragrance "Yvresse" (formerly known as Champagne) a whiff, which I did even though most fragrances give me the dry heaves.

Well, I fell in love with it - I mean really fell in love with it. And surprisingly it didn't make my sinuses swell up and make me wanna go "Fort Hood" on anybody. So I bought a bottle. After wearing it for an hour, my head started throbbing and my ears got very hot and turned beet red. How much proof do I need to really understand that I am allergic to alcohol based fragrances in a bottle?

The bitch is back 2

Interior Designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard had a small dinner party last night where I debuted the first episode of Drag Race: Season Two over dessert. The viewing party included Sir Elton John, David Furnish, Eva Mendes & her partner George, Deborah Anderson, The Osbournes: Amy, Jack, Sharon & Ozzy, and Martyn's partner Michael. The screams of laughter were deafening. They had all been fans of last season, but unanimously agreed that this season is light years beyond. I'm so excited for the rest of y'all to see it February 1st.

Cher Vegas '09

It turned out to be a good thing that I forgot the Cher tickets at home in LA, because when I got to the box office at Caesar's Palace to have them reissue another pair, the House Manager told me that this was my "lucky day." Indeed it was because not only did he reissue Tom and I new tickets, but he reassigned our seats to be front row and center. I was literally sitting 6 feet in front of Cher during the entire concert, which needless to say was beyond spectacular.

We cheered, danced and gave her so much love and energy that she clearly appreciated the singular consciousness. It seemed as though a third of the sold-out crowd were true blue Cher fans, but the other two thirds were there to see any show regardless of who was performing. They didn't seem to give much by way of fanatic adoration... not the easiest group to perform for. My guess is that the house saves the front row for folks who are really gonna let "The Lady" have it.

She looked fucking phenomenal and sounded better than ever. In all my years of going to concerts (my first was James Brown at the San Diego Sports Arena in 1969), last night's Cher concert was by far the best. It felt as though she was performing just for me.
