Home on The Range

After we wrapped up production on season 2 of Drag Race, I took a much needed vacation to Georges' ranch in Wyoming. The terrain looks exactly like South Africa. As fate would have it, my dear friend Jon and his buddy Jimmy just happened to be passing through Douglas while I was there.

L.O.V.E.U.

Mariah is at the top of her game on her latest album "Memoirs..." I haven't stopped playing it since I got it three weeks ago, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. Every track is perfection. The woman is a master at conceiving, writing and producing pop music that satisfies the hungry heart. I venture to say, it's my favorite album of Mariah's since "Music Box." Even the gratuitous "The Impossible" has grown on me. Maybe it's that there are no rappers on this album (I actually prefer the Gucci Mane rap version of "Obsessed"), or maybe it's the absence of Jermaine Dupri that makes it so palpable. Whatever the case, I'm lovin' it.

This is how I resequenced her album (notice the absence of several interludes):

1. Obsessed f/Gucci Mane
2. Ribbon
3. Up Out My Face
4. More Than Just Friends
5. Angels Cry
6. Inseparable
7. Standing O
8. H.A.T.E.U.
9. It's A Wrap
10. Betcha Gon Know
11. Languishing (The Interlude)
12. I Want To Know What Love Is
13. Obsessed (Cahill Edit)
14. Candy Bling
15. Up Out My Face (The Reprise)
16. H.A.T.E.U. (Remix) f/Big Boi & Gucci Mane
17. I Want To Know... (Moto Blanco Edit)
18. The Impossible
19. Candy Bling (Remix) f/T-Bag
20. Obsessed (Seamus Haji & Paul Emanuel Edit)

You should be so lucky!

It was the fact that she was so completely present that made Kylie Minogue's show at the Hollywood Bowl beyond fantastic. Absolutely one of the best concerts I've ever seen, and well worth the 20 year wait to see Kylie stateside. The staging, the costumes, and the pleasure of hearing a real singer sing live made it a night to remember.

Her gratitude, Aussie charm and authentic kindness had us all in the palm of her hand. We had the feeling there was no place else on earth she'd rather be. And by 'we' I mean every gay man in the greater Los Angeles area, because that's who was there. The few straight men spotted were seen clutching their girlfriends for dear life.

After the encores, it seemed she didn't want to leave. Her eyes welling with tears as the ecstatic crowd bestowed a lengthy standing ovation. While leaving the outdoor venue, the full moon shone down on thousands of smiling faces and a collective good will. Kindness is the new cool. All hail queen Kylie!

New Moon Over Malibu

I awoke this morning at 3am. I couldn't sleep. It must've been the full moon. At 4:30, I got in the car and drove out to Malibu while listening to Madonna. It must've been the full moon. I turned around at Cher's house. The moonlight on the crashing waves was fuckin' surreal.

Today will be the day I finish writing my book, it has to be. I can't take another day sequestered in my house.

Except for the lecture I gave at Claremont McKenna College last tuesday, I've barely had any human contact in a month.

Although I will be seeing Kylie tonight at the Hollywood Bowl!!!
