Thursday, February 26, 2009 Lyrics: Main Event The title of the album started out as "Faster! Faster!" because the initial concept was momentum and speed, but as the project took shape, the emerging theme became perseverance. The philosophy being that there are more ways to be a winner than coming in first place. In the song "Main Event", we champion taking responsibility for the navigation of your human emotions by a healthy, proactive form of denial... dancing the blues away. We are spiritual beings having a human experience. I've learned to look at the dark nights, but not to stare. Main Event [R. Charles / L. | Permalink Sunday, February 22, 2009 The Perfect Ru It was quite perfect. We recorded the whole album in Lucian's bedroom, with his closet serving as the vocal booth. Just the three of us, Lu, Ru & Gumbo (Lucian's dog). Sidenote: Part of the reason Mama named me RuPaul was to pay homage to her creole roots. Creole chefs start with a "roux" as the base for traditional Gumbo. Mama always said "the best Gumbo starts with the perfect roux."
