p control

we flew from New York to Geneva, and then to Doha (on the Persian Gulf between Saudi Arabia & Iran) for a 5 hour layover.

when it came time to board the plane for Johannesburg, we were told we needed more blank pages in our passports to gain entry into South Africa. we each had 2 blank pages, but those pages were designated for "amendments & endorsements". we needed 2 blank pages with the word "visas" written on them.

the next flight to "Joburg" was the following day, so we checked into a hotel and made arrangements with the American Embassy to have more pages added to our passports.

Doha is the largest city in a country called Qatar. it reminded me of Las Vegas, but with Arabic writing on everything. lots of construction, lots of money. my only other trip to the Middle East was 5 years ago when we went to Israel. this would be my first trip to Africa.
