BROADWAY'S LONGEST (AND THICKEST) RUNNING SHOW

saturday night, we stayed at the JEFFERSON, which was the same hotel i was staying at on the night i found out my mother had died. that was back in 1993, after i had returned from performing at the GAY & LESBIAN MARCH on WASHINGTON. a bittersweet triumph.

this weekend, after performing at LULU'S in D.C., i got a call from ROURKE telling me of another death... THE GAIETY ALL-MALE BURLESQUE REVUE. that's right, the best show on B'WAY has closed it's doors after 30 years. i've been a patron for 20 of those years, and even got to perform there back in 1989 with LAHOMA, PERFIDIA, INTERNATIONAL CRISIS and RAMSES.

for the past five years, i expected the "GEM OF TIMES SQUARE" to close due to the new morality that has corrupted our country, but in the end, economics was it's demise. the building was sold to make room for another STARBUCKS, no doubt.
