GREAT SCOTT !
TIKO and i went to see a free outdoor concert given by THIS LEGEND , last friday night in downtown LOS ANGELES. it was a warm, beautiful, moonlit evening that couldn’t have been more perfect. the crowd was diverse, eclectic and clearly appreciative of this rare occurrence.

STAR POWER
PJ agreed with me when i said “movie stars shouldn’t be allowed to run for public office, because the voting public can’t decipher the difference between a manufactured image and the real person” and then he added “either that or all public offices should be held by movie stars”. we both laughed and went on to cast the perfect government :
pamela anderson...president of the united states
la toya jackson...vice president
cher...secretary of state
tonya harding...secretary of defense
lil’ kim...speaker of da house
mary-kate & ashley olsen...co-governors of the state of california

JACK’S BACK !
i drove my buddy JACK to the hospital at 5:30 a.m on wednesday morning to have the same surgery performed on his back that i had one year ago. he, too, suffered six, long, agonizing months before finally agreeing to have his shit cut open. i had advised JACK to choose a surgeon who operates out of the hospital that i went to, CEDARS-SINAI, which he did, but his insurance company wouldn’t pay for CEDARS. they (AETNA) insisted he go to a cheaper hospital called BROTMAN MEDICAL CENTER. in my opinion, BROTMAN is a very ghetto hospital, so much so, that my friend MIKE dubbed it BROTMAN CHICKEN & WAFFLES. picture the cast of GOOD TIMES, after “james” and “florida” left the show, running a medical facility.
the doctor chose to feature an ortho-scopic procedure, in which a small incision is made in the small of the back, and then they stick one of those little bity cameras through the hole to find out where to cut the herniated disc. the next day, it was very apparent that the operation was not a success, based on the fact that JACK was still in a colossal amount of pain. the decision was then made to send him back to the O.R. to do the procedure the old fashion way...to split him open like a country ham.
six days later, JACK’S doing much better, but he’s still at ROSCOE’S CHICKEN & DOCTORS. sunday, when TOM and i went to visit him, there was a nurse’s aid standing in the hallway unbraiding her own hair !!! i swear to GOD, that’s the truth. hopefully, they’ll release him this afternoon. i’ll bring him to my house to recover, where he won’t have to beg for pain medication or share a room with someone else.

SONNY BONO BLVD.
TOM and i drove to to PALM SPRINGS this past weekend and stayed overnight at the house of a friend of his. truth be told, the real reason for the trip was to drop in at the CABAZON OUTLET MALL, just outside PALM SPRINGS city limits. CABAZON features GUCCI, PRADA & “VER-SAYS”, but unfortunately, they had nothing we wanted to buy or “mop”. (-see PARIS IS BURNING)
it was 100 degrees in the desert, so we basically just stayed in the pool all day. JEFF, TOM’S friend, had a dog named BULLET, who instantly fell in love with me, and i with her. BULLET was a one year old german shepherd, the color of toasted meringue and the sweetest personality you’d ever want in a dog. she also had the sharpest nails you’d never want on a dog. when i’d jump in the pool, she’d follow and frolic with me. at the end of the day, i looked like i’d been mauled by BARRY WHITE’S ex-wife, GLO-DEAN.
we had a fun time out there, as i’ve always loved the desert. up until a couple of years ago, i’d never been to PALM SPRINGS, which is odd because i’m a native CALIFORNIAN. before i visited there, i had always thought of PS as LAS VEGAS without the gambling, which is kinda on target, but not quite. they actually do have casinos, but there is also another element to the town that goes beyond description. PS possesses a strange peaceful energy that’s both intoxicating and hypnotic. that magical force field could be a result of the town’s geographic position in relation to the mountain it sits at the foot of. who knows ? all i know is that the serenity of PALM SPRINGS is undeniable.

MAN IN THE MIRROR
it’s strangely ironic how much the young actor who plays "the son" on NIP/TUCK looks like MICHAEL JACKSON.
