THANK YOU, LADIES

ATLANTA has always been my spiritual touchstone, so when GEORGES told me that a gallery there would be showing his work, i jumped at the chance to go. the opening was a huge success, and i’m so happy that i didn’t have to lie about how much i love his paintings. his work is extraordinary, passionate, bold and beautiful, and i couldn’t be more proud of him.

the 5 day trip was filled with seeing old friends and going to a different drag show every night. ATLANTA is the holyland for girls with something extra.

thursday night we went to BUDDIES (2345 cheshire bridge rd. 30309) and saw the legendary LENA LUST and the incomparable TINA DEVORE. i’ve been a fan of these two ladies since 1982. in fact, me and THE LADY BUNNY (known then as BUNNY HICKORY DICKORY DOCK) would worship MISS DEVORE and copy all of her mannerisms and make-up techniques. also appearing that night was the super sexy HEATHER DANIELS , dancing machine SABLE SHEPPARD and the elegant ASHLEY KRUIZ.

later, we tipped over to METRO (1080 peachtree st. 30309) for the talent show which featured a gaggle of newcomers, including last week’s winner who was very good, but the other contestants opted to lip sync slow songs, which is a common mistake made by inexperienced girls.

friday night, we dropped by MODEL T’s (699 ponce de leon ave.) which turned out to be exactly what our twisted minds craved. the show was fantastic and raw and wrong...we loved it! it was very DAVID LYNCH with it’s makeshift stage, bad lighting and country music playlist. i can’t wait to go back. yummy!

saturday night’s offering was the show at LE BUZZ (585 franklin rd. in marietta, ga.) which was kinda boring and lacked humor, except for a glamazon who did YOLANDA ADAMS’ “the battle is not your’s...it’s the lord’s” and another genius queen who tore up “100% pure love” by CRYSTAL WATERS.

sunday, we saved the slickest, most professional show for our last night in HOTLANTA. CHARLIE BROWN’S X-RATED CABARET at BACKSTREET (845 peachtree st.) is the city’s longest running “female impussynation” revue. unfortunately, an ongoing lawsuit with the city has temporarily left the massive club without liquor, making it a virtual ghost town. the show was still great nonetheless, featuring the incredibly fabulous RAVEN, SHAWNNA BROOKS, LAUREN LA MASTERS, LENA LUST, HEATHER DANIELS and the grand dame of southern drag, CHARLIE BROWN, who will never know just how much i learned from her all those years ago.

i owe my career to superstar legends like CHARLIE BROWN, TINA DEVORE, AMBER RICHARDS, LENA LUST, YETTIVA ANTOINETTE, LILLY WHITE, APPLE LOVE, BURTHA BUTTS, TIFFANY MIDDLESEX, CHENA BLACK, ERICA ADAMS, CHOCOLATE THUNDERPUSSY, HOT CHOCOLATE, LAKESHA LUCKY and DINA JACOBS. thank you, ladies. i will always jump at the chance go back to ATLANTA and reconnect with that magic.
